Une année de changements!

Une autre année vient à sa fin!
Cela a été une année de changements pour Lise et moi.
Un peu avant que l'année avait commencé, nous avons déménagé à Drummondville, Québec, en attendant notre départ pour le Honduras. Durant ce temps nous avons eu la joie de visiter plusieurs églises au Québec et Ontario, ayant pu renouer connaissance avec plusieurs amis de longue date.
Le matin du 6 mars, nous étions à bord de l'avion pour le Honduras, arrivant tôt l'après-midi. Nous avons demeurer pour quelques jours dans le foyer du Dr. Nasrallah, un medecin qui travaille dans l'hôpital évangélique de Siguatepeque.
Le 9 mars nous avons déménagé dans notre foyer actuel, une belle petite maison avec un toit d'aluminium, une belle petite cour – envahi quelquefois par des coqs bruyants :) .

John
Durant ce temps John a visité le Guatemala, San Salvador, et La Ceiba, au Honduras, pour participer dans la facilitation des cours de BILD . Il s'est aussi joint à notre pasteur local, Hector Villatoro, en facilitant deux cours de BILD pour les pasteurs de notre département (province) de Comayagua.
Dans notre église locale il a donné un cours d'Homilétique à deux groupes de membres, et un cours sur l'étude Biblique Inductive à un groupe. Cela a été pratique, et au moment opportun, pour un des membres, Oswaldo Enrique Melgar, qui a annoncé au début décembre qu'il partait pour l'île de Roatan où il implanterait une église. (Il se peut que nous allions passer une semaine chez lui dans la nouvelle année, afin d'enseigner un cours). John l'a fait aider dans l'enseignement d'Homilétique au deuxième groupe.

Lise
Lise n'a pas exactement été oisive durant ce temps. Elle aide avec le programme local d' AWANA , et elle a fait une séries d'études pour les dames qui travaillent au foyer d'enfants Vida y Libertad. Plusieurs de ces femmes ont exprimé leur appréciation, et au moins une a exprimé comment elle essaie de mettre en pratique ce que Lise enseignait. Lise a aussi développé une relation avec des enfants du voisinage qui viennent la voir chaque semaine. Elle les fait pratiquer la lecture, leur donne un petit quelque chose à manger, et les fait jouer des jeux de table.  Francis, une petite fille qui répète ses années à l'école constamment, et semblait être un cas désespérée, ayant de la difficulté à lire, était la première de ce groupe. Lise a fait vérifier ses yeux, et l'a fait venir pour lui lire régulièrement (au début c'était presque à chaque jour).  La semaine dernière nous avons appris qu'elle avait réussi son année scolaire! (L'école publique au Honduras termine en décembre et recommence en février). La réussite de Francis a été attribuée au temps que Lise passe avec elle. Je pense qu'une chose qui a aidé beaucoup est que Lise lui a inspiré de la confiance en elle-même.
Lise a aussi travaillé avec deux "brigades" de samedi, sortant de l'église vers des régions très pauvres pour donner de l'attention médicale gratuite, et aussi distribuer des vêtements. C'était un choc de voir combien peu ces gens avaient.
Dans la nouvelle année, Lise enseignera aussi une classe d'école de dimanche dans notre église locale.

Notre autre intérêt
Roberto, un des garçons que nous parrainons, a passé pas mal de temps visitant chez nous. Il a beaucoup de difficulté à l'école, et apparemment changera d'école en février. C'est un bon garçon, avec un manque de confiance en lui-même. Durant les vacances, il travaille dans un moulin à scie. Lui et un autre garçon, Orlin, passent une couple de jours avec nous à Noël.

Quand vous priez pour nous, veuillez vous souvenir de:
1. Notre prochain déménagement dans un autre apartement (plus proche de la ville et un peu plus sécuritaire) en février.
2. Oswaldo, qui commencera son nouveau ministère à Roatan en février.
3. Roberto, en recommençant dans une nouvelle école, qu'il puisse développer un peu de confiance.
4. Un nouveau groupe de membres de notre église qui commencera des cours de BILD dans la nouvelle année. Ils commenceront avec la série des Principes Fondamentaux. Quelques-uns auront un cour concentré sur comment faciliter ces cours, au début de l'année.
5. Comme toujours, la sécurité et protection en voyageant, même en entrant en ville à pied.

End of 2012 - A Year of Change

Another year approaching its end!
It has been a year of change for Lise and I.
Just a bit before the year began, we moved to Drummondville, Quebec, while awaiting our departure for Honduras. During that time we had the joy of visiting several churches in Quebec and Ontario, and connecting with long-time friends.
On the morning of March 6th, we boarded the plane for Honduras, arriving in early afternoon. We stayed for a few days in the home of Dr. Nasrallah, an MD who works in the evangelical hospital of Siguatepeque.
On March 9th we moved into our present home, a nice little house with an aluminum roof, a nice yard – sometimes invaded by noisy roosters :) .

John
During this time John visited Guatemala, San Salvador, and La Ceiba, in Honduras, to participate in facilitating BILD courses. He also joined our local pastor, Hector Villatoro, in facilitating two BILD courses for the pastors in our department (province) of Comayagua.
In our local church he gave a Homiletics course to two different groups of members, and a course on Inductive Bible study to one group. It has been timely for one of our members, Oswaldo Enrique Melgar, who announced in the beginning of this month that he will be leaving for the island of Roatan, where he will be planting a church. (We might go out to visit him for a week some time during the year, to teach a course). John had him help teach Homiletics to the second group.

Lise
Lise has not been idle during this time. She has been helping out with the local AWANA program, and did a series of Bible studies for the workers at the Vida y Libertad children’s Home. Several ladies expressed their appreciation, and at least one shared with her how she was trying to put in practice what Lise had been teaching. Lise has also been developing a relationship with some local children who come to see her every week. She has them practice reading, gives them a snack, and has them play some table games.  Francis, a little girl who has been repeating grades and seemed to be a hopeless case as far as being able to read was concerned, was the first of this group. Lise had her eyes checked, and then had her come and read to her regularly (at first, almost daily).   Last week, we learned that she has passed her grade! (Honduran public schools end the school year in December, and begin again in February). Francis’s success was attributed to the time Lise spent working with her. I think one thing that helped greatly was the way Lise instilled confidence in the little girl.
She also worked with two Saturday "brigades" going out from the church to very poor areas to give out free medical attention, as well as clothes. It was shocking to see how little some of these people had.
In the new year, Lise will be teaching a Sunday School class in our local church.

Our Other Interest
Roberto, one of the boys we sponsor, has spent a fair bit of time in our home. He is having a good deal of difficulty in school, and apparently will be changing schools again in February. He’s a good boy, with a lack of confidence in himself. During the holidays, he is working in a sawmill. He and another boy, Orlin, are staying with us for a couple of days at Christmas.

Prayer Requests
When you pray for us, please remember:
1. Our next move into another apartment (closer to town, and a bit safer) in February.
2. Oswaldo, as he begins a new ministry in Roatan.
3. Roberto, as he starts once again in a new school, that he might develop some self-confidence.
4. A new group of members who will be starting in the BILD courses in the new year. They will begin with the First Principles series. A few will have a crash course in how to facilitate these, early in the year.
5. As always, safety as we travel, and even as we walk into town.
