Greetings
in our Saviour’s name!
Our first
year of retirement is nearing its end. This has not been a year of total
idleness, as we have found ways to serve.
Service
In
September, Lise and I travelled to Honduras for two weeks, where Lise spent
some time with the children in the Vida y Libertad Home, while I travelled to a
couple of more remote regions of the country to meet with groups of students
and do some teaching. It is encouraging to see the ETBIL program continuing. (ETBIL
means Educación Teológica Basada en la
Iglesia Local, or Theological Education Based in the Local Church).
As well as visiting with our daughter Melodie (who has been with the Children’s Home for the past 11 years) and her husband Yeffri, we were able to spend a little time with Roberto, a boy who spent three years in our home and is now in the Honduran military.

We plan to
return in January, as I have been asked to preach at the multiple graduation
held at the annual national convention there. Of course I will use the time to
visit different student groups as well. Our intention is to travel to Honduras
twice a year. We are thankful for the fact that, even though commitment to our
support ended on January 1st of this year, some have continued to
send funds to our account at the Fellowship, permitting us to make these trips.
This Fall,
I am travelling to Chateauguay every second Sunday, to teach an afternoon
course on Inductive Study of Colossians to a group of twenty students. In
December, I will be teaching a three day course on “Social Justice and the
Prophets” at Parole de Vie Bethel (French language Word of Life school) here in
Sherbrooke. My course in Chateauguay ends in mid-November and starts up again
next February.
Lise continues to coordinate the sponsoring of children for the Vida y Libertad Home. This is done through our National Fellowship’s FAIR program. Anyone who is interested in helping in this needy project by sponsoring a child can communicate with Lise at francis.lise@gmail.com. Lise does not handle money for this. But she puts you in contact with a child that you may want to sponsor. Monthly remittances go to FAIR. (See https://www.fellowship.ca/)
Family
We have
also been able to spend a good deal of time with our new grandson, James. Our
daughter, Annie, went to Viet Nam to adopt him over two years ago. As she
teaches school full time, last year we took care of him two days a week. This month
he started Kindergarten, so we pick him up after school three times a week.
He is full of energy and very bright. It has also been good to see the rest of the family, although not as often, as Sam and Richard are in Montreal, Daniel and Claudia are in Quebec City with their 6 year-old daughter Elena.

Church
We are
enjoying the fellowship in our local church here in Sherbrooke. Thursday
morning I will be joining a retired men’s prayer group. Every second Wednesday evening we attend a
house group. And a dedicated couple from our church live right on our street,
just a few doors down from us.
When you
pray, could you please remember:
- 1. Ongoing leadership training in Honduras
- 2. Roberto, that he would become more involved in a local church
- 3. New young leaders in Honduras as they struggle with temptations, discouragement, etc.
- 4. The Vida y Libertad Children’s Home, their personnel and their finances.
