September Activities in Honduras

The month of September was rather full for us. It started out with John recuperating from pneumonia and dengue, and Lise recuperating from bronchitis! While it slowed us down in the end of August and beginning of September, things quickly have gone back to “normal” – if that exists. The pneumonia did prevent me, however, from going to El Salvador in the end of August. Felix had to go alone and translate for Steve Semple, from Bramalea. He had been counting on me for that, since, while Felix has been making a lot of progress in his English, it is still a struggle.

Graduation

From 16 to 20 of September, I joined Felix and Dennis Campbell, from Morningstar Baptist Church, in La Ceiba, to begin a new series in the First Principles courses. It was great to get to know Dennis. That Thursday we celebrated the graduation of students from the first series of courses. It was quite an impressive ceremony. This is quite a multi-ethnic community with Garrifunos, a worker among indigenous people from Mosquitia, (called Miskito) in Northeastern Honduras, representatives of other indigenous groups and Hondurans of more obvious European descent.  It was quite an occasion for this group. Education, including theological education, has been sorely lacking – some who have graduated from what are considered as traditional seminaries are amazed at what they learn from a simple discipleship course!

The students sit around tables to discuss the material.

Lise

Lise has continued in her work with AWANA (outreach to children in Siguatepeque), Bible studies with the older girls in the Children’s Home, and Bible studies with the ladies who work at the Children’s Home.

Learning

This month Lise and I have also begun following a course on “Cultural Intelligence”. We are following it online with Mark Naylor. We have stimulating discussions online with different missionaries around the world. Pray that we might be able to apply this well in our context!

Finances

We are grateful for all those who have been faithfully contributing to our financial support during these past years. Without you, we could not be serving here in Honduras, and we thank God for His provision through you.  Based on the past twelve months, we are presently a bit below our required support figure. Could you pray with us that the Lord would provide some new partners to fill in the $250 that are lacking monthly.

Than you again for praying, supporting, and caring.

God bless!
